East Side Mobin: My interview with ESM

You may or may not (Preferably may) have seen a shirt, some shorts,
or maybe a sticker or two around your neighborhood.
Maybe you've heard your friends talking about them,
maybe not, but if you do not know about East Side Mob...
You're quite late to the party.

(Stine & Oscar. Oscar is wearing one of the newer ESM shirts)

Chicagoans/ East Side Mob Founders Oscar & Stine
have a business plan: Takeover Chicago then the world!
Armed with a pack of cigs, my phone and note pad
I recently had an interview with the East Side Mobbers
on a roof top looking over downtown Chicago.
We spoke about their plans for the future, their spring/summer line,
and what brought them to found the indie-punk street wear company that is
EAST SIDE MOB.

1.) So, when did you decided to start ESM?
STINE: I think... Sophomore year?
OSCAR: Yeah, in Mr. Myers class.
Me: Oh, you started in school?
S: Yeah, we took a graphic design class
and he basically let us do whatever we want. So we would make
stencils and shirts etc.
O: But, we didnt think to sell our stuff until we went to
Gallery37 (an art program in downtown Chicago).

2.) Who/What inspires your designs for ESM?
Pete Wentz is a huge inspiration. Also, UNIF, Drop Dead,
A$AP Rocky, Azealia Banks and... OURSELVES.

(ESM Shroom T-Shirts)

3.) Who would you say is your main clientele?
 S: Young & fun people...
O: That don't care.
S: We love when people buy our clothes and experiment
with them. Rip them up; we like that a lot.

4.) Seeing as though you're graduating soon &
are going to separate colleges do you have future plans for
the line? Or is this the end after summer ends?
We deff plan on moving forward with ESM.
We're setting up a look book, adding more colors,
making the line more intricate.
O: "We wanted to make clothes that we would buy.
I got tired of going into store and never seeing clothes I wanted."

(ESM customer displaying her new T)

5.)Do you plan on making changes to the line anytime
soon? Are you going to keep the "homemade" feel to it?
O: Yes, most of the pictures are taken in my bedroom on my door!
S: Yeah, we don't have any big plans to change anything in the future.

 (ESM Custom order shorts)

I'm in love with the with the above shorts!
So cute! and in my fave color. Id buy them..
if I were a girl. Fuck it, I might just buy them
and hang them up on my wall.
Everything made by East Side Mob is $20 or less!
The T-shirts are only $10!
And yes, they do custom orders...
Perfect right?

So far they've had orders come in from
Manhattan, Brooklyn, L.A, Indiana, Maryland etc.
And the brand is only growing!
Keep up the good work!
ESM till I die!

SPRINGTIME means No Socks!

Chicago is one of the most beautiful places in the world.
That why during my two favorite seasons (Spring & autumn)
I freak out and start taking pictures of random happenings.
But since I dont have the Canon xlr anymore Ive
been forced to take pictures on my android.

The pics are still of beautiful landscapes, but are
a lesser quality then previous photos ive posted of my fave seasons!

I mean, you get the point of the pictures which is what matters most.
Right?

AlleyArt Chicago: Neo

So, JaJa, this Fabulous girl named Lauren
(yeah, I'm trying to bring "fabulous" back),
and I went to NEO in Chicago's Lincoln Park.
Inside was OKay.. but idk if it was the malt liquor
I chugged minutes before, the fact that it was almost 5am or the overwhelming
amount of leather everyone was wearing but I found myself standing outside
A lot admiring the art.

Seriously, finding artistic gems hiding away in this
city I love so much just brings to mind childhood memories
and for some reason "The Wizard of Oz" because after all...

"There is no place like home."

All photos were obviously taken on my cell phone.

WordsOfWisdom: Friendship

Ive been working on myself; my health, my mind, and my thoughts.
All of the above needed change...well not so much a change..
I needed growth. Taking a lesson from Queen Oprah Im doing my own
Lifeclass of sorts. I decided since I tell you guys everything I might as
well share this also. If you choose not to read so beit there are plenty
other post that will interest you! :)
FRIENDSHIP
Knowing who to keep around and who to let go.

A saying that I keep very close and dear to my heart; That has helped me through so much pain & confusion is, "So as the seasons change remember, people change just as swiftly and without warning".

This saying reminds me that as we go down our chosen paths in life there are those who will be right beside us, and then those who appear to be beside us but are looking for the nearest exit to leave you. Those who believe that selfish ways will make for a better life for them: Those who are truly confused.

I was told recently by a friend, "right now is the time in your life
to be selfish", and when I heard this I couldn't disagree more.
Self preservation is fine by all means put yourself first. But, I think a lot of people confuse the two. Self preservation is always making sure ones self is secure AND THEN worrying about others if you so choose to (which as a human you should). Selfishness is being secure and having more then you could ever need and still wanting more without caring about the needs of others. Those are my own definitions but I think Im making my point. If not here is the sum of this post: A friend should never think of being selfish. I think a Selfish-Friend is an oxymoron. How can you call yourself a friend if the only person you care about being happy, and secure in life is yourself? How can you expect me to love and trust you as a person if I know you'll sell me out if it'll get you a step closer to where you want/think you want to be? Ill let you figure that out for yourself.

But I leave you guys with this.

There are people whom come into your life at the right time when you need them most. When you're at your lowest and they're the only ones whom can lift you up. Treat them well, because you will remember them forever and if you do them wrong you'll remember that forever also.

D.I.Y to D.I.E FOR: Fish-Knit

I've been feeling real ARTsy this winter, and the way I handle feeling "artsy" is designing and creating things that SHOW feeling and emotion. I love Chicago but its something about the Chicago winter that gets you down and forces you to pick yourself back up. Maybe its because its cold outside and you're forced to sit in the house with your mind jumping from wall2wall. Whatever it is we all handle it in our own way. This is my way.

(I didn't like my facial expression so.. BLUR!)

This was an old maroon sweater I bought in a vegas thrift store while shopping with my friend (the very cute and stylish) Karolina.
For some reason I fell in love with it. I would wear it in the months to come but it never really found a meaning in my wardrobe until I found some scissors. Like I said the winter had got me down and I wasn't feeling myself: I was more... empty. So I made my sweater empty; I cut these palm sized holes throughout the chest, stomach, and shoulder area. So now it looks like a "Fish-Knit sweater" (I know what a clever play on words).

It didn't take long. Very quick and easy and I get to play around with the knit cut outs I still have. Yay! Right?

Do you like it?
Not for everyones taste I know.
